More than 70 School Board Chairpersons, Principals and Catholic Education Office staff from across the Sandhurst Diocese gathered in Shepparton recently for the annual school board dinner.
A presentation from Trish Miller, Assistant to the Director: Planning, Resources and Governance focused on the role of the school board, enabling participants to explore how school boards contribute to school life.
The annual school board gathering provides a valuable opportunity for board members to dialogue and share ideas with other school boards from across the Sandhurst Diocese.
Forums of this kind recognise that parents and school boards help provide the best learning outcomes for students when they work together with schools.
The school board forum was followed by a dinner where Monsignor Peter Jeffrey delivered the Bill Reid Tribute, an annual oration to honour the memory of Mr WP “Bill Reid”, who served Catholic Education across four dioceses in a variety of roles during his life time.
The award was inaugurated in 2014 to honour the memory of Bill Reid and to acknowledge his widespread love and commitment to the Ministry of Catholic Education.
The Bishop Noel Daly Award for outstanding service to leadership in Catholic Education Sandhurst was also presented at the dinner and once again Monsignor Peter Jeffrey was called to the front, this time as the recipient of the prestigious award.
The Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, Mr Paul Desmond said Monsignor Peter Jeffrey’s commitment to Catholic Education within Sandhurst and beyond has been outstanding and at all times of the highest quality and significance.
“He is a champion for Catholic Education with his demonstrated positive support, promotion and influence in his role as Canonical Administrator, Parish Priest, School Board Chair, Diocesan Board Chair and community member.”
“Catholic Education Sandhurst has been blessed by the dignified leadership of Monsignor Peter Jeffrey. The impact of his contribution to our diocese, school communities and the wider community will continue to be valued and permeate for many years to come,” said Paul.
The annual School Board forum provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the leaders in our school communities, from the School Board members who give so generously of their time and talents to the Parish Priests, principals and wider Catholic education community who ensure our schools are places of faith, academic excellence and innovation.
