Liturgical Ministry Seminars May 2024

Liturgical Ministry Formation is Key to Full, Conscious and Active Participation of All at Worship.

The Diocese will again be hosting Liturgical Ministry seminars in response to Pope Francis’ call for us to “rediscover, safeguard and live the truth and power of the Christian celebration”. The Seminars will include a Keynote Address on Pope Francis’ Apostolic letter ‘Desiderio Desideravi’ followed by a choice of three workshops in Ministry of the Word; Ministry of Holy Communion; and Liturgical Music.

These liturgical formation seminars and workshops aim to lead participants to more enriching participation in the Liturgy; recognising that the way we celebrate Mass directly effects our experience of it and our capacity for fuller, deeper engagement and real encounter.

The way the Liturgy is celebrated affects our experience of the Liturgy. The Liturgy is not a performance of traditional ritual, but the act of being present to authentic encounter. As Pope Francis expresses in Desiderio Desideravi, the way in which we celebrate the liturgy directly impacts our experience of it, and our capacity to participate fully and actively in it. As we form the Liturgy, so the Liturgy and our encounter with Christ forms us.

“I would like … us to rekindle our wonder for the beauty of the truth of the Christian celebration, to remind us of the necessity of an authentic liturgical formation, and to recognise the importance of an art of celebrating that is at the service of the truth of the Paschal Mystery and of the participation of all of the baptised in it, each one according to his or her vocation.
All this richness is not far from us. It is in our churches, in our Christian feasts, in the centrality of the Lord’s Day, in the power of the sacraments we celebrate. Christian life is a continual journey of growth. We are called to let ourselves be formed in joy and in communion.”
