Sale of Feathertop Chalet to Chabad Youth - Media release 5th December, 2016

The Diocese of Sandhurst today announced that it plans to sell Feathertop Chalet to Chabad Youth in order to concentrate on its core ministries across the Diocese. For over 26 years Feathertop has provided learning and development opportunities for schools and retreat based accommodation for individuals and family groups.

Feathertop Chalet was bought as a retreat, school camp and conference venue in 1991 for our Diocesan schools, parishes and families. Over the 26 years of ownership our dedicated employees have delivered a professional service to the many visitors to Feathertop.

Chabad Youth is a Jewish youth focused organisation providing education, events and services across Victoria. The Diocese of Sandhurst Business Manager Mr Cameron Fraser said the sale of Feathertop to Chabad Youth will see ongoing investment and development in the venue. “This will ensure that Feathertop continues to grow and meet the needs of young people from all backgrounds,” he said.

The Bishop of Sandhurst Leslie Tomlinson accepted Chabad Youth’s offer to purchase, following a recommendation from the Feathertop Board and unanimous support from the College of Consultors and Sandhurst Diocesan Finance Council.

Mr Fraser said “key to the decision to sell was a steady decline in Diocesan patronage at Feathertop since 2008 and a growing reliance on visitors outside of the Diocese that has resulted in Feathertop not serving its original purpose”.

Chabad Youth plans to invest significantly in Feathertop including adding additional beds, expanding outdoor activities as well as upgrading all facilities and amenities. Chabad Youth take possession of the Chalet on 28th February
