A Legacy of Invitation that spans Dioceses

Bishop Shane’s legacy in Sandhurst can be defined by his commitment to forming confident and courageous missionary disciples. When he steps into his new role in Brisbane, he will take this vision of Church with him, asking the people of God in Brisbane to be welcoming, inviting and joyful witnesses – a vision he has left embedded in the Sandhurst Diocese.

The Church needs to be “clear and unembarrassed about our faith and why it matters to us,” he said.

“I don’t think that means necessarily being on a soapbox on every street corner, but we’ve got an enormously rich tradition that we’re confident in proclaiming – that the fullest human life includes a relationship with God lived in community and responding to the Gospel that Jesus has proclaimed following after him,” he said.

“We need to be clear about doing that ourselves and doing that in a way that’s clear and invitational.” He said Jesus’ first invitation to the disciples of John the Baptist was simple – “come and see.”
