Marist Brass has achieved an impressive result at the 2026 Bendigo Competitions Society Eisteddfod, securing second place in the C Grade Brass Band Section. The band’s performance is particularly noteworthy given its recent promotion from D Grade, demonstrating its ability to compete confidently alongside long-established C Grade ensembles.
The result continues a period of sustained success for Marist Brass, which won the Victorian D Grade Championships in both 2024 and 2025, and placed second at the Australian Brass Band Championships in 2025 and 2026.
Marist Brass President John O’Connor said the band was extremely pleased with the outcome. “We thoroughly enjoyed our performance at this year’s Eisteddfod and are thrilled with the result,” Mr O’Connor said. “To step into C Grade and hold our own against well-established bands is a significant achievement and reflects the progress our musicians have made.”
Mr O’Connor also commended the band members for their commitment. “Our players have worked exceptionally hard over recent years, and this result is a testament to their dedication and steady improvement,” he said.
Marist Brass also acknowledged the efforts of the Bendigo Competitions Society volunteers. “We extend our sincere thanks to the organisers and volunteers who contributed to a well-run and enjoyable weekend,” Mr O’Connor said. “It was exciting for the band to be part of the 100th Anniversary of the Bendigo Eisteddfod”.
The band was strongly represented in the Solo and Ensemble sections, with numerous band members delivering high-quality presentations with several achieving podium placings.
Marist Brass will now turn its attention to upcoming concert commitments. The band continues to welcome new members who wish to join a growing and ambitious musical ensemble.
