World Youth Day in Seoul is just over a year away (August 3-8, 2027) and preparations are stepping up across Australia. National World Youth Day Coordinators Network meetings have been taking place monthly; most recently with a hybrid meeting to progress planning for the international pilgrimage.
Sandhurst Youth Ministry’s Claire Spinelli and Jessan Tano attended the National World Youth Day Coordinators Network gathering online. It was both inspirational and beneficial, writes Sandhurst Youth Ministry Officer, writes Jessan Tano.

Claire and I attended the online National World Youth Day Coordinators Network Gathering on 11 June 2026, which ran from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
It was a full day filled with valuable insights and practical guidance for effectively planning the upcoming World Youth Day, which will take place in Seoul, Korea, 3–8 August 2027.
We had the opportunity to hear from experienced coordinators who have participated in and led several World Youth Day pilgrimages. Their advice was incredibly helpful in identifying potential challenges and learning how to anticipate and respond to unexpected situations. The gathering was divided into several key sessions: Getting to Know the WYD Saints; Korean Culture, Faith and Pilgrimage; Planning the Pilgrimage (Pre-Departure and WYD Week); Planning the Pilgrimage (Returning Home); Risk and Critical Incident Scenarios; and Reflection and Discussion.
As a young team coordinating a World Youth Day pilgrimage for the first time, we found every topic discussed at the gathering relevant and beneficial. The sessions provided us with practical ideas, different approaches, and valuable considerations for planning the pre-departure phase, the WYD week itself, and the post-pilgrimage experience. Having the opportunity to engage with other coordinators was particularly encouraging, as it reminded us that we are part of a supportive national network of people who are willing to share their knowledge and experience. It was also inspiring to come together with representatives from across Australia as we collectively prepare to accompany young people on this significant journey of faith.
